A garment packing plan should make it possible to identify what is inside each carton without opening the whole shipment. Define how styles, colours and sizes are allocated before packing begins. A correct production total does not guarantee that each location or recipient receives the right assortment.
Choose the packing unit
Decide whether garments are packed individually, as matching sets, by size assortment or by recipient. Explain any retail presentation requirements, folding method and accessories. For personalised orders, control the recipient reference separately from the garment specification so names and sizes do not drift.
Provide approved packaging artwork and variable-data rules. State which labels carry style, colour, size or other identifiers and where they are placed. Confirm any destination-specific packaging requirements with the responsible buyer or logistics adviser.
Build the packing list from the allocation
- Identify each style and colour with the same codes used on the order.
- Show size quantities and the total units in each carton.
- Number cartons consistently and identify any split or mixed cartons.
- Record agreed weight and dimension information at the appropriate stage.
- Separate shipments or delivery groups clearly.
Check that unit totals reconcile with the approved order and any accepted changes. If production quantities differ, obtain the required decision rather than hiding the difference inside the packing list.
Agree carton marks and release checks
Approve a carton-mark layout showing the required identifiers and handling information. Keep it consistent with the packing list and shipping instructions. Ask for a first packed-carton check where the order's complexity warrants it, including garment label, bag label and carton contents.
Before dispatch, confirm who signs off packing accuracy and who authorises shipment. Preserve the final packing list and evidence of agreed corrections. Packing approval and product inspection are related, but each needs its own clear scope.
Common packing questions
Can one carton contain several sizes?
Yes, if the allocation is agreed and the contents are clearly listed. Match the arrangement to receiving and distribution needs.
Does the packing list establish shipping or customs compliance?
It describes the shipment contents. Confirm the full document and transport requirements with the parties responsible for the route and destination.
For a team programme, use the uniform allocation guide. Submit packing requirements with your style-colour-size breakdown.
