Yoga leggings need to be reviewed under the movement and fit conditions they are designed for. A fabric that looks opaque on a table may behave differently when stretched over the body. Check the finished sample in the intended size rather than treating the fibre blend or GSM as proof of coverage.

Make coverage checks repeatable

Agree how samples will be assessed: garment size, wearer or fit form, lighting, movement and fabric colour. Review bending and stretching in a consistent way. Document the conditions and observations so the next sample can be compared fairly. Avoid presenting a single informal squat check as a universal performance certification.

Check lighter colours and areas under greater tension separately. If coverage is unsatisfactory, review fabric construction, weight, colour and fit together. Making the garment smaller or increasing compression can change the result.

Evaluate the waistband during movement

  • Record waistband height, finished waist and any internal elastic construction.
  • Check rolling, slipping and pressure during bending and seated movement.
  • Review whether pockets affect the waistband when carrying the intended item.
  • Check the seam and label positions for contact against the skin.

Describe where and when a problem occurs. “Waistband rolls at the front while seated” gives the pattern team more useful information than “fit is wrong”. Keep comments tied to the correct size and sample version.

Assess stretch recovery and care

Review the garment after the agreed movement and care sequence, noting any bagging, distortion or change in dimensions. If laboratory performance testing is required, agree the test method, specimen and acceptance criteria with the testing provider. An elastane percentage alone does not establish the finished garment's recovery or durability.

Inspect seam extension and comfort as well as appearance. Decoration must also tolerate the intended stretch; approve logos on the actual legging fabric and placement.

Common development questions

Does a higher GSM guarantee squat coverage?

No. Weight is only one factor. Construction, colour, stretch and the relationship between pattern and wearer also matter.

Can one fit sample approve every size?

Use agreed grading rules and review sizes that reveal proportion risks. A base size is a starting point, not evidence for the whole range.

Pair the sample review with the measurement guide. Share your legging fit reference, intended activity and coverage requirements.
